(FILA Global) - FILA sponsored tennis player Karolina Pliskova rallied against Lesia Tsurenko Sunday to seal the Brisbane International title 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. The win marks Pliskova’s second championship in three years at the WTA Premier event and twelfth singles title overall.
The Czech star and No. 5 seed overcame a gritty Tsurenko after struggling to find her stride early in the championship match. After trailing 4-6, 3-5, Pliskova rallied for fourteen straight points and would go on to dominate the deciding third set. Pliskova capped off a strong week and start to 2019 by securing wins over Yulia Putintseva, Marie Bouzková, Ajla Tomljanović, and Donna Vekić before the title match.
Pliskova will look to continue her hot start to the Australian summer when she takes to the courts at Melbourne for the Australian Open January 13-27.
At the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand, FILA sponsored player Sofia Kenin captured her first career doubles title with partner Eugenie Bouchard. The duo knocked off Paige Mary Hourigan and Taylor Townsend in a third set tie break to win the title, 1-6, 6-1, 10-7.
Kenin/Bouchard lost the first set in each match during the week, but were able to secure come-from-behind victories over Kerkhove/Santamaria, Siegemund/Panova, and No. 4 seeded Jurak/Han before the championship match victory.
