- FILA sponsored athlete Ash Barty and partner CoCo Vandeweghe defeated Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, on Sunday to win the women’s doubles title at the Miami Open.
In their second appearance as a team, Barty and Vandeweghe were unseeded entering the tournament. The young team defeated three seeds on their run to the final including Australian Open champions Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic and top seeds Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.
“We’ve had an amazing two weeks and a phenomenal tournament,” Barty told the crowd during the trophy ceremony. “It’s so nice to be out here on the final Sunday.”
Barty’s WTA doubles ranking will jump to World No. 6, the highest of her career. The win in Miami marks her 6th career doubles title and her first with Vandeweghe.
