(FILA Global) - FILA sponsored tennis player Marin Cilic led team Croatia to the Davis Cup Title on Sunday at Lille’s Stade Pierre Mauroy in France. Cilic defeated Lucas Pouille 7-6(3), 6-3, 6-3, securing the Croatian victory over defending champion, France.
The win capped off a perfect weekend for Cilic, which included a win over Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets. The Croatian team secured the title after Cilic’s victory against Pouille gave the team a decisive 3-1 match lead over host country, France.
“It’s not every day that you become a world champion,” said Cilic of the accomplishment. “For us it’s a dream come true, for this nation.”
With this win, Cilic finished up an impressive 2018 season. He reached the final round at the Australian Open, captured his 18th career ATP World Tour singles title at Queens Club, and he appeared in the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals for the fourth time. Cilic finished the season as the World No. 7 ranked player.
