(FILA Global) - FILA sponsored player Karolina Pliskova earned her 11th career singles title in Tokyo after defeating Naomi Osaka in straight sets, 6-4 6-4. The title is Pliskova’s second singles win in 2018.
Pliskova defeated Daria Gavrilova, Allison Riske and Donna Vekic all in three-set matches en route to the title match. Pliskova ended US Open Champion Naomi Osaka’s ten-match win streak by converting an impressive 81% of first serves in the final.
“I was pretty confident coming into this tournament, especially because it’s indoors” said Pliskova. “I like indoors, Stuttgart was also indoors, so the conditions for me are perfect. I feel happy on court, which is important for me.”
The win moves Pliskova into the final qualifying spot for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore, taking place later this October. Pliskova will look to maintain that qualifying spot as she competes at the Wuhan Open in China this week.
