FILA's Karolina Pliskova Wins Eastbourne Title
(FILA Luxembourg S.à r.l.) - FILA sponsored tennis player Karolina Pliskova defeated Anqelique Kerber Saturday morning in Eastbourne at the Nature Valley International 6-1, 6-4 to claim her third Tour-level title of the season (Brisbane, Rome).
Pliskova’s dominant week included wins over Margarita Gasparayan, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Elise Mertens and fellow FILA sponsored player Kiki Bertens en route to the title match. Failing to drop a set prior to the title bout, Pliskova continued her consistent play, using her powerful serve and ground strokes to overwhelm the 2018 Wimbledon champion Kerber.
“I just want to take all the positives from this week,” said Pliskova of her mentality heading into Wimbledon next week. “I felt like everything went quite smooth. Next week will be a new start.”
The title marks Pliskova’s second Eastbourne triumph in the last three years (2017) and positions her as the No. 3 seeded player for the years’ third Grand Slam in London. She will look to continue her stellar play in 2019 when she opens up her Wimbledon campaign Monday against Lin Zhu.
