FILA s Diego Schwartzman Claims First Singles Title of 2019 at Los Cabos
(FILA Luxembourg S.à r.l.) - FILA sponsored tennis player Diego Schwartzman captured his first ATP Tour singles title of the 2019 season, at the FILA sponsored Abierto de Tenis Mifel in Los Cabos on Saturday evening, defeating his opponent Taylor Fritz 7-6(6), 6-3.

The third-seeded Schwartzman dropped only one set en route to the title. After a bye in the first round, Schwartzman defeated both Ernests Gulbis 7-5, 6-0 and Mikhail Kukushkin 6-1, 6-2 in straight sets before meeting countryman and No. 2 seed Guido Pella in the semifinals. Schwartzman triumphed in the all-Argentine battle, coming out on top 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to reach the final. Fritz, who knocked out the No. 1 seed Fabio Fognini in his own semifinal, came out strong in the championship match with an early break, but Schwartzman settled down and saved three set points before wrapping up the title in straight sets.

“This feels really great because I’ll take a lot of confidence with me for the next tournaments,” Schwartzman said following his win. “It was really important for me to come here and win big matches against the big guys. The title is like the cherry on top for me.”

The title is Schwartzman’s third ATP Tour career singles triumph and first on hard courts.

The Argentine will look to keep his momentum going at Coupe Rogers in Montreal this week, where he will take on the Italian Marco Cecchinato in the first round.
