(FILA Global)- FILA sponsored player Ashleigh Barty earned her third WTA Doubles Title of the year at the Rogers Cup in Montreal after a come-from-behind victory over Latisha Chan and Ekaterina Makarova 4-6, 6-3, [10-8]. This win is Barty and partner Demi Schuur’s second title of the year, after winning the BNL d’Italia in Rome earlier this season.
The No. 8 seeded team of Barty/Schuurs dropped just one set throughout the week, before defeating the second-seeded Chan/Makarova in a third set tie break. The duo fought off an impressive 16 of 18 possible break points in the final set and used a handful of clutch shots to claim the title.
"It’s always nice to get to the end of the week and be tired from playing matches, I suppose. That’s why we’re here, and it’s a great start to the U.S. swing for me," said Barty. Barty also had an impressive run to the semifinals in the ladies’ singles draw, before falling to World No. 1 and eventual champion Simona Halep.
Barty will look to keep the momentum going as she advances through the North American hard-court swing. She will play in the FILA-sponsored Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati this week.
