Kenin Cruises to Second Singles Title of 2020 at Lyon Open

(FILA Luxembourg S.à r.l.) - FILA sponsored tennis player Sofia Kenin won her second title of the year Sunday at Lyon, defeating Germany’s Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the final.

The title marks Kenin’s fifth career singles title, all of which have come in the last calendar year. Kenin fought through tough opponents all week – pushing her way through four straight three-set matches en route to the title, including a two-and-a-half-hour-long victory of fellow FILA sponsored player Alison Van Uytvanck in the semifinals. “Every match was a close one and I had to really fight through,” said Kenin. “Every player I played put up a tough fight against me, and I was able to play my game which was good.”

Kenin will slide up into the World No.4 ranking Monday when the WTA rankings come out, and will next compete at the FILA sponsored BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA.

At the FILA sponsored Oracle Challenger Series Indian Wells, FILA tennis player Irina Begu captured the women’s singles title over Misaki Doi 6-3, 6-3. Begu was dominant all week long, failing to drop a set en route to the impressive triumph.
