FILA Sponsored Player Barbora Krejcikova Wins First WTA 1000 Title at Dubai
(FILA Luxembourg S.à r.l.) - FILA sponsored player Barbora Krejcikova won her first WTA 1000 title at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Saturday, upsetting World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. Krejcikova defeated the top-ranked Swiatek in the championship match, winning 6-4, 6-2 in just 91 minutes. The title is Krejcikova’s first singles victory of the 2023 season and sixth in her career, as well as her biggest since winning Roland Garros in 2021.
Krejcikova’s road to the championship was not easy, as she defeated the top three players in the world consecutively in the last three rounds (No.2 Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals, No.3 Jessica Pegula in the semifinals, and World No.1 Swiatek in the final). She became only the fifth player ever to beat the top three-ranked players at the same event.
"I think I showed my best tennis this week," Krejcikova said in her champion's press conference. "I'm really happy with the way I played, how I was able to play my tennis but also hold the nerves, just enjoy everything that was happening during this week on the court."
With the victory, Krejcikova is projected to rise from World No. 30 to World No.16 in Monday’s updated singles rankings.
