(FILA Global) - FILA sponsored tennis player Timea Babos wrapped up the WTA season in Singapore on Sunday, by winning the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Doubles Championship with her partner, Kristina Mladenovic. Babos and Mladenovic, the No. 2 seeded team, knocked off the No 1. seeded team of Siniakova/Krejcikova in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 to claim the title.
"We are here with the best players, doubles players and singles players in the world," said Babos, following the win
. "It's just an amazing story and feeling, and to share it with Kiki [Mladenovic] and to live through these moments together, it's very, very special. I'm really glad to be a part of this story."
Babos and Mladenovic kicked off the week in the Quarterfinal round, defeating Gabriela Dabrowski and Yifan Xu in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Facing fellow FILA sponsored player Ashleigh Barty and partner CoCo Vandeweghe in the Semifinals, Babos and Mladenovic prevailed in a thriller 6-7(5), 6-3, 10-8. The duo of Babos/Mladenovic used consistent play Sunday to coast to the title.
The WTA Finals Championship is Babos’ second consecutive title in Singapore, after winning in 2017 with partner Andrea Sestini Hlavackova. Babos secured three doubles titles in 2018, winning the Australian Open in January, the Madrid Open in June and the WTA Finals to finish out the year.
Babos will finish the season as the WTA No. 3 ranked doubles player.
